About BPSC and TRE 4.0

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) runs the Teacher Recruitment Exam for the Education Department, Government of Bihar. BPSC holds the written exam and publishes the result. The Education Department checks documents, allots districts and issues appointment letters.

TRE 4.0 is the fourth phase. BPSC published Advertisement 15/2026 on 22 September 2026. It replaced Advertisement 14/2026 of 18 August 2026, which BPSC cancelled.

Where things stand on 3 November

The first deadline was 26 October 2026. That day, BPSC extended the dates, citing a Supreme Court order of 1 August 2025 (SLP (Civil) Diary No. 28464/2025). Fee payment closed on 2 November. The online form closes today, 3 November 2026. The notice prints no closing time, so finish early.

None of the official files gives a date for the written exam. BPSC’s exam calendar of 14 August 2026 shows TRE 4.0 as “TBD”. It says the date will come after the advertisement period ends. If the candidate count is high, BPSC may hold the exam in more than one phase.

What the corrigendum of 29 September changed

BPSC received a revised supplementary requisition for languages and special education through the General Administration Department. It then added 932 posts:

  • Class 9 to 10: 493 posts in Bangla, Fine Arts, Dance, Maithili, Arabic, Persian, Music and special school teacher.
  • Class 11 to 12: 439 posts in Bangla, Bhojpuri, Magahi, Maithili, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic and Persian.
  • The 90 special school teacher posts cover nine disability areas. Low vision has the most posts (28).
  • It clarified the TET pass marks. CTET holders pass at 60% (general), 55% (BC, EBC and general-category women) or 50% (SC, ST and disabled). For STET, the pass marks set by the Bihar School Examination Board apply.
  • Every candidate from outside Bihar, man or woman, must meet the general-category TET minimum.

All other terms of the advertisement stay the same.

Eligibility

You must be an Indian citizen with the NCTE qualification for your level. Special school teachers follow RCI rules. You also need the right TET:

Class groupTET needed
1 to 5CTET Paper-I or BTET Paper-I
6 to 8CTET Paper-II or BTET Paper-II
9 to 10, incl. special school teacherSTET Paper-I
11 to 12STET Paper-II

Teachers appointed and working before 2012 who pass the competency test do not need a TET.

Candidates appearing in STET 2026 could apply before their result, with a self-declaration. They must pass STET 2026 before the written exam, or BPSC will not issue an admit card.

Apart from that STET 2026 note, every certificate must carry a date on or before 26 October 2026. This covers degree, training, TET and experience certificates. The advertisement says a later extension does not move this cut-off.

Our reading: the CTET December 2026 exam falls on 12 and 13 December, after this cut-off. By this rule, a pass from it would not count for TRE 4.0. BPSC has not said so in words.

Age limit

The minimum age on 1 August 2026 is 18 for Class 1 to 8. For Class 9 to 12, it is 21. BPSC counts the maximum age on 1 August 2024:

CategoryMaximum age
Unreserved men37
Unreserved women; BC and EBC (men and women)40
SC and ST (men and women); transgender42

Disabled candidates get 10 more years. Bihar government servants get 5, if they have not used their five attempts. Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus their service period, if they are not over 57 on the application date. Teachers working under panchayat or municipal bodies get relaxation too. Check your dates with the government job age calculator.

Domicile and reservation

Candidates from any state can apply. However, 40% of all posts go to those who passed matric or intermediate from an institution in Bihar. A pass from undivided Bihar also counts. If that pool falls short, eligible candidates from the other 60% can fill the rest.

Reservation applies only to Bihar domiciles. That includes the women’s quota: 50% for Class 1 to 8 and 35% for Class 9 to 12. Candidates from outside Bihar cannot claim any reservation.

Application fee

Every candidate pays ₹100, plus bank charges. If you did not enter an Aadhaar number, you pay a ₹200 biometric fee on top. BPSC refunds nothing.

If the bank took your money but the portal shows “Check Payment Status”, click it. Paid twice? Ask your bank for a chargeback.

Exam pattern

Selection rests on one objective written exam. There is no interview. Each paper has 150 questions for 150 marks and runs 2 hours 30 minutes.

Class groupPart I: LanguagePart II: General StudiesPart III: Subject
1 to 530120None
6 to 8, 9 to 10, 11 to 12304080

Part I tests English plus Hindi, Urdu or Bangla. It only qualifies: you need at least 30%. Merit comes from Part II for Class 1 to 5, and from Parts II and III for the rest.

Each question has five options. Pick E if you skip a question. A wrong answer costs one third of a mark, and so does a question with no option marked.

You must score at least 40% (general), 36.5% (BC), 34% (EBC) or 32% (SC, ST, women and disabled). The 32% for women and disabled candidates applies only to Bihar domiciles. There is no re-evaluation.

Guest teachers eligible for Class 11 to 12 posts get 5 marks per year of service, up to 25. These count only after qualifying, and depend on a pending High Court appeal. They need an experience certificate from the District Education Officer. A candidate may sit this exam five times at most.

What to do next

  • Download your filled form from the My Account tab today. Check that every page shows the Application Number, Application ID and bar code.
  • Keep your registered mobile number and email active until the final result.
  • Watch bpsc.bihar.gov.in for the exam date and admit card. BPSC says it will post all notices for this advertisement there, not separately in newspapers.
  • Gather your originals: matric certificate, degrees, mark sheets and TET certificate. Add caste, EWS and domicile proof if you claim reservation.

Competition looks heavy. Adda247 reported on 27 October 2026 that 9.40 lakh candidates had applied by Monday evening (26 October):

“The count of 9.40 lakh was recorded till Monday evening, against only 33,320 vacancies.” (Adda247, 27 October 2026)

This is the outlet’s figure. None of the BPSC notices we checked gives an application count. More teacher drives are in our teaching jobs and TET updates. Postgraduates aiming at college posts can check the UGC NET December 2026 dates.
