About UPSSSC

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission sits in Pickup Bhawan, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. It selects staff for Group ‘C’ posts in many state departments, corporations and universities. Since a 2020 government order, these exams follow a two-tier system. Candidates first take the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET), and only PET takers can sit the mains for a post.

These two advertisements came out on 12 October 2026. Both are mains exams built on PET-2025. The PDF hosted on this page is the Mechanical advertisement. The Electrical one is on upsssc.gov.in.

Vacancy breakdown

The two advertisements add up to 1,536 posts. Department-wise posts are in the positions table above. The category split below comes from Table 1 of each PDF. That is pages 7–8 for Mechanical and 7–9 for Electrical.

Irrigation JE Mechanical is the largest block, with 304 posts plus 154 in special selection. Next come UPSRTC Mechanic (270), PWD JE Mechanical (264) and PWD JE Electrical (231). Table 2 of each PDF shows the horizontal seats. These cover women, ex-servicemen, freedom fighters’ dependants, persons with disabilities and outstanding sportspersons.

The posts themselves are not all JE posts. UPSRTC is hiring Assistant Storekeepers, Mechanics and Electricians at Level 4 or 5. Read the post name before you pick it on the form.

The numbers can still change. UPSSSC says the hiring departments set the vacancies and reservation, and the totals may rise or fall.

Eligibility

PET-2025 score

You must have appeared in PET-2025 and received a scorecard. UPSSSC ranks applicants by their PET-2025 normalised score. Anyone with a zero or negative absolute or normalised score drops out.

Was your PET result marked Under Investigation (UI) or Provisional? You may still apply. Your shortlisting then depends on the outcome of the Commission’s inquiry.

Qualification

A diploma in the right branch is the core requirement. Several posts add something more:

  • All PWD and university JE posts ask for High School as well as a 3-year diploma.
  • JE (Electrical) in the Directorate of Electrical Safety also needs the ability to read and write Hindi in Devanagari.
  • Electrician at UPSRTC needs an Electrical Supervisory Licence with the diploma.
  • The Research Assistant post at Kanpur needs two years of teaching experience.
  • Instructor Machine needs Intermediate plus a diploma in a mechanical maintenance trade.

Annexure 1 lists the equivalent diplomas for the Ground Water posts, based on the AICTE handbook. Annexure 2 lists the equivalent High School boards and diploma branches for the PWD and university JE posts.

For most posts, two years in the Territorial Army or an NCC ‘B’ certificate earns preference. For UPSRTC Mechanic, a heavy vehicle driving licence does. You must hold every qualification by the last date.

Age limit and relaxation

The table shows the age band and the date each post counts it on.

PostsAgeCounted on
Most JE posts, Instructor Machine, UPSRTC posts18–401 July 2026
Technical Assistant (Ground Water), ADPRO (Technical), Research Assistant, JE at UP State Construction Corporation21–401 July 2026
JE (Electrical), Directorate of Electrical Safety18–401 January 2027

Electrical Safety posts advertised between July and December count age on 1 January of the next year. Check your dates with our government job age calculator. Sitting a central exam too? Our guide to central age relaxation lists the extra years there.

Relaxation follows the service rules of each post. The PDF prints it this way:

  • SC, ST and other notified categories: the upper limit rises by as many years as the government specifies.
  • Directorate of Electrical Safety: the upper limit is 5 years higher for SC, ST and dependants of freedom fighters. The government may relax it further after consulting the Commission.
  • UPSRTC and UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam: 5 more years for people already working there.
  • Employees of state services: five more years under the order of 27 August 2013.
  • Chief Minister Fellowship researchers: relaxation under the 2026 rules.

If you fall in more than one reserved category, you get only one relaxation, whichever helps you most. Reservation is only for UP domiciles. Candidates from other states count as unreserved.

Application fee

Unreserved, OBC, SC, ST₹0₹25₹25

Women, ex-servicemen, persons with disabilities, outstanding sportspersons and freedom fighters’ dependants pay by their original category. You can pay by card, net banking, UPI or SBI e-challan.

This ₹25 is not the exam fee. Shortlisted candidates pay a separate mains fee before they download the admit card.

How to apply

Mechanical (24-Exam/2026) closes on 25 November 2026. Electrical (25-Exam/2026) closes on 27 November 2026. The advertisements print dates only, with no closing time. Do not wait for the last evening.

  1. Open upsssc.gov.in and find the advertisement under Live Advertisement.
  2. Log in with your PET-2025 registration number. An OTP goes to the mobile or email you gave in PET.
  3. Your name, category, date of birth and other PET details appear on their own. Select every post you want, because UPSSSC ignores posts you leave unticked.
  4. Enter your qualification details: board, year, roll number, issue date and marks. Submit to get an 11-digit registration number.
  5. Your PET photo and signature load automatically, and you cannot change them. Tick the declaration and pay.
  6. Download and print the form. It prints only after the bank reconciles your fee.

Paid but no form on screen? Use “Update Your Transaction ID by Double Verification” in the Applicant Segment. Finish this by the fee reconciliation date: 2 December (Mechanical) or 4 December (Electrical).

You may edit the form until that date through Modify Application. Only four things can change:

  1. Correspondence address.
  2. EWS, horizontal category and gender.
  3. Qualification details.
  4. Marital status.

Candidates with a disability must update their disability category or sub-category through Modify Application. Government orders issued up to 30-04-2026 re-identified the posts for each disability. Do this by 2 December (Mechanical) or 4 December (Electrical).

Selection process and exam pattern

UPSSSC shortlists 15 times the vacancies in each category, plus everyone tied at the cut-off score. It ranks candidates by PET-2025 normalised score to two decimals. Selection then rests on the written exam alone.

At document verification you give your order of post preference. The Commission tries to allot posts by that preference as far as possible. It weighs availability, merit, qualification and age, and its decision is final.

Each paper has 100 objective questions worth one mark each, and you get two hours. A wrong answer costs a quarter mark. If the exam runs in more than one shift, scores are normalised.

Documents

Keep these ready for verification:

  • High School certificate, the only proof of date of birth UPSSSC accepts.
  • Marksheets, diploma and degree, with self-attested copies.
  • SC, ST or OBC certificate in the appendix format, issued by the last date. Women must use a certificate from the father’s side.
  • EWS certificate in the format of the OM dated 14-03-2019. It must be issued between 1 April 2026 and the last date. It must rest on 2025-26 income and be valid for 2026-27.
  • Disability certificate showing the type and percentage, in the format of the 18 April 2022 order.
  • Freedom fighter dependant or outstanding sportsperson certificate, if you claim it.
  • Ex-servicemen certificate, if you claim it. You must have retired by the last date.
  • No objection certificate from your employer if you work for the state or central government.
  • A printout of your submitted form.

Important instructions

  • File one application per advertisement. If you submit more, only the last one counts.
  • A married man with more than one living wife is not eligible. Neither is a woman who married a man with a living wife. Both rules apply unless the Governor has exempted them.
  • The UP Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 applies to this exam. Cheating can bar you from future UPSSSC exams.
  • UPSSSC does not write to candidates individually. Every notice goes up on upsssc.gov.in.
  • Admit cards will name the date, time and centre. You cannot change the centre.

PET-2025 holders can also check the UPSSSC Inter Level mains posts, which include VDO. Graduates can compare the UPPSC RO and ARO vacancies too.

More openings from UP and other states are on our state government jobs page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the last date for UPSSSC JE Mechanical and Electrical?

Can I apply for UPSSSC JE without a PET-2025 score?

No. Only candidates who sat PET-2025 and received a scorecard can apply. A zero or negative absolute or normalised score rules you out of the mains shortlist.

What is the age limit for UPSSSC JE?

18 to 40 years for most posts, on 1 July 2026. Some posts need a minimum of 21. JE (Electrical) in the Directorate of Electrical Safety counts age on 1 January 2027.

What is the UPSSSC JE application fee?

₹25 for every category. It is an online processing fee, and the application fee itself is nil. Shortlisted candidates pay a separate mains exam fee before the admit card.

How many candidates will UPSSSC call for the JE mains?

UPSSSC shortlists 15 times the vacancies in each category, plus everyone tied at the cut-off score. It ranks candidates by PET-2025 normalised score.

Can I apply for both Mechanical and Electrical?

These are separate advertisements with separate forms. Each allows one application, and if you submit more, only the last counts. Neither advertisement bars you from applying to both. You must still hold the qualification each post asks for.
