About UPPSC
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission came into existence on 1 April 1937. It works under Articles 315 to 323 of the Constitution and sits in Prayagraj. UPPSC recruits for the state’s government posts, including the Provincial Civil Service. This exam fills desk posts in the U.P. Secretariat, the Board of Revenue, the Advocate General’s office and UPPSC itself.
Vacancy breakdown
UPPSC has 501 posts for now: 495 under general recruitment and 6 under special recruitment. In short, that is 131 RO, 31 RO (Account), 329 ARO, 6 ARO (Account) and 4 single posts. The figures below come from the table on page 2 of the advertisement PDF.

DFF, PH, ex-servicemen, women and sports seats are horizontal. They sit inside the vertical UR to EWS counts. UPPSC may add similar posts before the prelims result, so the total can still rise or fall.
Page 2 adds two reservation notes. The rule that limited women’s reservation to U.P. natives no longer applies. The state deleted it after the High Court ruling of 16.01.2019 in Vipin Kumar Maurya (WP 11039/2018). It remains subject to Special Appeal (D) 475/2019. A disabled candidate may also compete for an unreserved vacancy in a post identified for that disability.
The pay of these posts ranges from ₹29,200 to 64,700 (Level 5) up to ₹47,600 to 1,51,100 (Level 8). The advertisement does not give the level of each post.
Eligibility
Every post needs a bachelor’s degree. You must hold every qualification by 26 November 2026. Final-year students waiting for results are not eligible.
- Samiksha Adhikari (RO) needs only a bachelor’s degree from a university set up by law in India. An equivalent degree also counts.
- Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari (ARO) adds a computer qualification and Hindi typing at 25 words per minute.
- For ARO, the Secretariat and Board of Revenue want ‘O’ Level from DOEACC. UPPSC also accepts a Diploma in Computer Science. The Advocate General’s office wants ‘O’ Level from NIELIT and typing on a computer. All three offices prefer candidates who also know English typewriting or typing.
- For RO and ARO (Account), you need a commerce degree with Accountancy and an ‘O’ Level in Computer Application. You must also know Hindi in Devanagari script.
- The Account posts also accept other routes. One is a commerce degree with accountancy from any university or deemed university under central or state law. A graduate-level CA or ICWA qualification recognised by the Government of India counts too (page 3).
- The Receptionist post needs History, Geography, English Literature, Anthropology or Architecture as a degree subject.
- For Manager, UPPSC prefers a three-year diploma in Hotel Management and Catering. Knowledge of horticulture and accounts rules helps, as does administrative experience supervising support staff.
- For Care-Taker, UPPSC prefers a one-year course in cookery, bakery, table laying or flower arrangement, or an equivalent. Knowledge of horticulture and accounts rules and supervisory experience also count.
For posts with a specific qualification, state your options clearly in the form. If you do not, UPPSC will not consider you for those posts.
For ‘O’ Level equivalence, the advertisement points to G.O. No. 08/2022/2/47-का-2-2022/02 एलसी/2022, dated 05.05.2022. Check that G.O. before you rely on any other certificate.
One court order touches on this question. In Abhinav Tiwari vs State of U.P., Justice Ajit Kumar of the Allahabad High Court passed a single-judge order. SupremeToday reported it on 10 September 2025.
That case concerned an ARO post under a 2016 advertisement. It turned on one candidate’s PGDCA, which a state clarification had treated as equivalent. The order is not a general ruling that PGDCA or CCC equals ‘O’ Level (SupremeToday report).
A Territorial Army record of two years or an NCC ‘B’ certificate gives preference when other things are equal.
Age limit and relaxation
You must be 21 to 40 years old on 1 July 2026. That means a birth date from 2 July 1986 to 1 July 2005. The relaxations for SC, ST and OBC, skilled players, persons with disabilities and ex-army personnel are only for U.P. domicile candidates.
| Category | Extra years | Born on or after |
|---|---|---|
| SC, ST, OBC of U.P. | 5 | 2 July 1981 |
| Skilled players of U.P. (classified games) | 5 | 2 July 1981 |
| U.P. government employees, Basic Shiksha Parishad and aided Madhyamik teachers or staff | 5 | 2 July 1981 |
| Persons with disabilities of U.P. | 15 (maximum age 55) | 2 July 1971 |
| Emergency or Short Service Commissioned Officers, ex-army personnel of U.P. | 3 plus army service | Depends on service |
| Chief Minister Fellowship research scholars | 1 per year of tenure, up to 3 | Depends on tenure |
The Chief Minister Fellowship relaxation has conditions. You must hold the completion certificate by the last date of application. UPPSC counts your tenure as on 1 July 2026. The relaxation helps only those who crossed the maximum age during the programme. If you already get a category relaxation, you get no separate one.
ECO and SSCO candidates need a certificate from the army, navy or air force. It must show that their service has been extended for rehabilitation, with no disciplinary action pending. They also give an undertaking to take release if selected.
The relaxation ends with a permanent commission or a resignation. It also ends with a release for misconduct or inefficiency, or at own request with gratuity. Ex-army personnel need their discharge from the army by the last date.
You get only one relaxation, whichever helps you most. Want to test your own birth date? Use our government job age calculator.
Application fee
| Category | Exam fee | Processing fee | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unreserved, EWS, OBC | ₹100 | ₹25 | ₹125 |
| SC, ST | ₹40 | ₹25 | ₹65 |
| Ex-servicemen | ₹40 | ₹25 | ₹65 |
| Persons with disabilities | Nil | ₹25 | ₹25 |
Dependents of freedom fighters, women and skilled players pay the fee of their original category. You pay through SBI MOPS by net banking, card or another listed mode.
Candidates who clear the prelims pay a second fee for the mains. It is ₹225 for UR, EWS, OBC and other states. UP’s SC, ST and ex-army candidates pay ₹105, and UP’s disabled candidates pay ₹25.
How to apply
- Get an OTR number at otr.pariksha.nic.in at least 72 hours before you apply. Enter your category and sub-category in the OTR, because the form copies them from there.
- On the UPPSC Notifications page, open the live A-4/E-1/2026 advertisement and click Apply. Then choose Authenticate with O.T.R.
- Enter your OTR number and verify with the OTP or your OTR password. Your personal details load on their own. Fill in the essential qualification for the post.
- On the Applicant Dashboard, click Submit Details under Application Part-2. Answer Yes or No for each preferential qualification.
- Pay the fee on the SBI MOPS page and print the Payment Transaction Slip. If the payment fails, log in to the Candidate Dashboard and use Pending Payment.
- Print the final application form and keep it. You may change your qualification details once, until 3 December 2026.
To change a personal detail, edit it in the OTR and then sync it on the dashboard. UPPSC accepts no other request for corrections.
Selection process and exam pattern
The prelims is a screening test. UPPSC calls fifteen times as many candidates as there are vacancies to the mains. The final merit rests on the total marks of the mains written exam.
| Stage | Paper | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Prelims (objective) | General Studies and General Hindi | 200 (140 GS + 60 Hindi) | 200 | 3 hours |
| Mains (descriptive) | Paper I: General Studies I | 20 | 200 | 3 hours |
| Mains | Paper II: General Studies II | 20 | 200 | 3 hours |
| Mains | Paper III: General Hindi and Drafting | 8 | 200 | 3 hours |
| Mains | Paper IV: Hindi Essay | 2 essays | 200 | 3 hours |
Each prelims question has four options. A wrong answer costs one third (0.33) of its marks, and two marked answers count as wrong. A blank question costs nothing. SC and ST candidates need at least 35 % and others at least 40 %. This minimum applies in both the prelims and the mains.
The advertisement does not describe a separate Hindi typing test. It names typing speed only as an ARO qualification.
Chief Minister Fellowship scholars get bonus marks in the mains. The mains carries 800 marks. So one year of tenure earns 2 marks, two years 4 and three years 6. You must obtain the completion certificate by the last date of application. That date is also the cut-off for calculating the weightage.
Documents
UPPSC wants no papers at the prelims stage. After the prelims, send a hard copy of the online form when the commission asks. Attach self-attested copies of:
- your High School certificate, the only proof of date of birth UPPSC accepts;
- marksheets, degrees and the computer and typing certificates for your post;
- your caste or other category certificate in the Appendix-1 format;
- an EWS certificate based on income of the year before you apply;
- a disability certificate countersigned by the Chief Medical Officer;
- a freedom fighter dependent certificate from the District Magistrate;
- a No Objection Certificate if you work for the central or state government;
- sports certificates in Forms 1 to 4, if you claim the skilled player benefit;
- proof of discharge from the army, or of extended service, for ex-army and ECO/SSCO candidates;
- the Chief Minister Fellowship experience certificate, if you claim it.
Our EWS and OBC-NCL certificate guide explains the income year and validity for central jobs. For this exam, still give the caste certificate in UPPSC’s Appendix-1 format.
Important instructions
- These details freeze on the last correction date: category, sub-category, domicile, gender and date of birth. EWS, creamy layer, name and address freeze too.
- For women, UPPSC accepts only a caste certificate issued from the father’s side.
- A man with more than one living wife cannot apply without the Governor’s exemption. The same applies to a woman who married a man who already has a wife.
- Wrong information can bar you for up to five years. Forged documents bar you from UPPSC for good.
- Use only a black ball pen on the OMR sheet, with no whitener, blade, pin or eraser. You keep the blue candidate’s copy.
- UPPSC fixes your centre, and you cannot change it. The UP Unfair Means Act, 2024 applies to this exam.
Hold a PET-2025 scorecard? UPSSSC is also filling Inter Level mains openings such as VDO and Mechanical and Electrical JE posts.
More openings from Uttar Pradesh and other states are on our state government jobs page.
