About the Indian Coast Guard
The Indian Coast Guard works under the Ministry of Defence. It recruits sailors called Enrolled Persons through the Coast Guard Enrolled Persons Test (CGEPT). This year the Staff Selection Commission handled the online applications on the ICG’s behalf. Selected candidates train at INS Chilka, a naval training base, before sea and trade training.
Exam date and what happens next
Applications are closed. The next step is Stage-I, the computer based exam, on 17 and 18 November 2026. SSC fixed these dates in its notice of 2 November 2026.
| Stage | Batch 01/2027 | Batch 02/2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Stage-I (CBE) | 17–18 November 2026 | 17–18 November 2026 |
| Stage-II (PFT, tests, medical) | End of February 2027 (tentative) | Held jointly with 01/2027 |
| Stage-III (INS Chilka) | Early May 2027 (tentative) | Mid October 2027 (tentative) |
| Basic training starts | May 2027 | November 2027 |
Only the Stage-I date is final. The advertisement calls the Stage-II and Stage-III dates tentative. It gives the training start months as planned.

Your post decides the qualification. Navik (GD) needs Class 12 with Maths and Physics. Navik (DB) needs Class 10. Hygienist-I accepts Matriculation or ITI. Yantrik needs an AICTE-approved diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics/Telecommunication, and the advertisement lists the accepted equivalent diplomas.
Your date of birth must fall in this range, both dates included:
| Post | Born between |
|---|---|
| Navik (GD), both batches | 1 November 2005 and 1 May 2009 |
| Yantrik (01/2027) | 1 May 2005 and 1 May 2009 |

OBC candidates get 3 years of age relaxation, and SC/ST candidates get 5. Try our age calculator with category relaxation to check your own dates.
ICG selects male Navik (GD) candidates in five zones, each with its own merit list. Your domicile certificate decides your zone.
| Zone | States and UTs |

| North | J&K, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh |
| West | Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu |
| East | West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim, Odisha |

Female Navik (GD), Yantrik, Navik (DB) and Hygienist-I have one all-India merit list.
Application fee
The fee was ₹550, paid online by net banking, card or UPI. SC and ST candidates applying against SC/ST vacancies paid nothing. ICG does not refund the fee. Did money leave your account on a failed payment? The advertisement says it should return to your account automatically within 15 working days.
How to get the admit card
- Go to ssc.gov.in and open your candidate login.
- Sign in with the email ID and mobile number you registered. ICG will not recover lost login details.
- Download the Stage-I e-admit card once ICG announces it. A clear black and white printout works.
- Check that your name, date of birth and ID number match your uploaded ID proof.

Selection process and exam pattern
Stage-I is a one-hour computer based test. It has 100 multiple-choice questions worth 1 mark each, in Hindi and English. Wrong answers cost nothing. You pass with 40 marks (UR, EWS, OBC) or 35 marks (SC, ST). ICG normalises scores if the exam runs in several shifts.
Stage-II happens at ICG recruitment centres. It includes a physical fitness test, an adaptability test, document checks and a medical exam. The PFT runs without a break:
| 1.6 km run | Squats | Push-ups | Bent-knee sit-ups | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Male | 6 min 30 sec | 20 | 15 | 15 |
| Female | 8 min | 15 | 10 | 10 |
Stage-III at INS Chilka covers final document checks and pre-enrolment medicals. Stage-IV verifies your certificates with the issuing boards. Your rank in the merit list rests on your Stage-I marks.
Minimum height is 157 cm for men and 152 cm for women. Candidates domiciled in the North-East states, Sikkim, Garhwal or Kumaon, and Gorkhas, get up to 5 cm off. Ladakh, Lakshadweep & Minicoy and Andaman & Nicobar get up to 2 cm. You need a domicile certificate for either.
Documents for Stage-I
- Original ID proof, the same one you uploaded: Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, driving licence or passport.
- One printout of the e-admit card.
- Two passport-size colour photographs, matching the uploaded photo.
Stage-II needs much more. Bring your original certificates, two self-attested photocopies of each, and 12 photographs. SC/ST candidates claiming travel fare must add their tickets, a cancelled cheque and the travel form.
Important instructions
- Keep mehndi and wax off your thumbs. If the biometric machine cannot read your thumb, you cannot sit the exam.
- Every document must be issued on or before 21 October 2026. It must stay valid until at least 31 December 2027.
- ICG allows permanent tattoos only on the inner forearm, from elbow to wrist, and the back of the hand. Notified tribal communities get concessions.
- ICG will not change your Stage-I or Stage-II centre once it allots one.
- If you applied more than once, only your latest application counts.
